The OriginalGlitch Cafe

Oooooh, I'm mad.  I am.  I'm as mad a hopping frog.  You ask Dormouse Moneybags, as I now call bizzo partner Amanda, and she'll tell you how she's been nearly falling asleep with boredom as I regale her with the latest in the Saga Of Ning.

Ning is the online application we use for our stitcher social network, and it does its job very well, don't get me wrong....

Only every now and then in this luscious business of ours we have big fat obstacles that come carrumphing down in our way (I know.  It's not a word, no.  It's not.  I just made it up.) and we have to skirt round the obstacles sharpish.

One such is that Ning have begun charging for usage - not vast amounts, but more than we'd like to have to pay frankly, and as a consequence, we have lost some of our functionality on there.  That being all the OriginalStitch Manual stuff.  The OriginalStitch Manual contains everything you need to know about being a stitcher, making the products, packaging them, sending them and how you get paid.  So losing it entirely, well, THAT'S not a pain in the harris at all is it....oh no, hang on, it's a huge pain in the harris!

However.  Don't panic.  If there's one thing we have learned in this fabulous OriginalStitch journey it's that we have SAS-like capacity to get round obstacles.  We whack on a helmet, strap on a toolbelt, whip out a bunch of tools and we wriggle and squirm our way out of things like spies in Spooks, who as you know, always have a little sewing-kit in their pockets for dangerous situations, and before you know it - pop! - up we come somewhere else, neatly avoiding the obstacle.

And so we have done in this case, although let me tell you, it was a giant inconvenience for us.  Time is the one thing we have the very least of, and we like to spend it doing nice things like, ooh, designing and sewing and sewing and designing and taking orders and eating cakes....
Not frantically re-writing 30 pages of significant company information till me eyes fall out me bonce.

However, the solution we have found is just soooooooo much purrtier! Boy there are some amazing opensource applications on the tinkleweb, and the one we have found to house our manual makes it look famdabbydoozy.

And this is the reality of working for yourself, in a small business - often challenges that seem disastrous initially bring forth new and wholly unexpected benefits.  Our new OriginalStitch Manual isn't quite ready yet, but it will be soon, and we are so delighted with how it will work now.

Well, lawks.  Who knew how long it would have taken us to change had the disastrous not occurred?
So, thank you Ning, for being a little bit awkward, and forcing us to go scavenging round the tinkleweb again.  We are feeling just a little bit smug.
