Ning is the online application we use for our stitcher social network, and it does its job very well, don't get me wrong....
Only every now and then in this luscious business of ours we have big fat obstacles that come carrumphing down in our way (I know. It's not a word, no. It's not. I just made it up.) and we have to skirt round the obstacles sharpish.
One such is that Ning have begun charging for usage - not vast amounts, but more than we'd like to have to pay frankly, and as a consequence, we have lost some of our functionality on there. That being all the OriginalStitch Manual stuff. The OriginalStitch Manual contains everything you need to know about being a stitcher, making the products, packaging them, sending them and how you get paid. So losing it entirely, well, THAT'S not a pain in the harris at all is it....oh no, hang on, it's a huge pain in the harris!
However. Don't panic. If there's one thing we have learned in this fabulous OriginalStitch journey it's that we have SAS-like capacity to get round obstacles. We whack on a helmet, strap on a toolbelt, whip out a bunch of tools and we wriggle and squirm our way out of things like spies in Spooks, who as you know, always have a little sewing-kit in their pockets for dangerous situations, and before you know it - pop! - up we come somewhere else, neatly avoiding the obstacle.
And so we have done in this case, although let me tell you, it was a giant inconvenience for us. Time is the one thing we have the very least of, and we like to spend it doing nice things like, ooh, designing and sewing and sewing and designing and taking orders and eating cakes....
Not frantically re-writing 30 pages of significant company information till me eyes fall out me bonce.
Just like our tag threads, we're scrappy! |
And this is the reality of working for yourself, in a small business - often challenges that seem disastrous initially bring forth new and wholly unexpected benefits. Our new OriginalStitch Manual isn't quite ready yet, but it will be soon, and we are so delighted with how it will work now.
Well, lawks. Who knew how long it would have taken us to change had the disastrous not occurred?
So, thank you Ning, for being a little bit awkward, and forcing us to go scavenging round the tinkleweb again. We are feeling just a little bit smug.
And hello YuDu, who will be housing our OriginalStitch Manual soon. Watch this space!

Just to confirm how cool the YuDu is, they have an Alpaca magazine on the homepage. Doesn't get any better than that!
xx
I know, it's fab isn't it! Sew Hip and its partners are up there too. My favourite thing in the world is the lovely flippy page-turning noise. I want a button on me that does that!

Aren't computers great...when they work properly!!When they don't you want to tear your hair out (grr...)
It makes you feel so smug when you you manage to overcome and obstacle and come up with something better doesn't it?
Well done and sometimes these things happen for a reason to keep us evolving and improving.
Yes, cool Alpaca magazine, also an interesting publication called Thirsty - the Happy Hour guide. Sounds like you need a happy hour or two, Catherine, after your 30-pages-long- eye-popping marathon. Well done on your ingenious get-around.
That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or so they say, well Originalstitch is far from dead! We will overcome and other such cliched blurb. But seriously, the new Yudu manual will be fab and very easy to use. Keep up the hard work Catherine, lots of deep breaths!

Yes, been playing that game too Dad!!! Please be grateful I haven't rung you with my latest disastrous 'word won't open my document' query....!!
So glad you got that little issue worked out.
I think we should take a tally on how many words you can make up in a single post. Me thinks you would get in Guinness for sure!
Big HUGS tea pea.
Go Open Source!! We have been using open source for a long time. A great range of Linux operating systems out there with endless applications to use on them. Free and best of all they are not so easy for spyware etc to infiltrate.
